What To Wear NOW: Fur Accessories

This Savvy City Girl is loving the subtle hints of fur I'm seeing on the streets o
f New York. Less is more, and when it comes to the end of winter and start of spring, it's the littlest tastes of furry delight that make my fashion heart sing.

The fur accessory starting gaining momentum in Spring 09, and by Fall 09 was a fashion must-have, so there's a good chance you already have one in or closet. If not, don't shy away from this trend - it will take you into F/W 10, and there are plenty of places to find vintage fur items at a steal. Look for a STOLE, COLLAR or VEST anywhere that sells used clothing (check out Eleonor Stein's 10 Haggling Tips if you're hitting the flea market). You can probably snatch one up for a little as $5 and up to $50. If you're super savvy, you'll take a minute to see if your mom has one stowed in her closet collecting dust (check out SCG's How to Raid Your Mother's Closet for more ideas).

THE FUR STOLE
One of my favorite fur items is the STOLE. The beauty of the stole is that it is so diverse. You don't have to be wearing an evening gown to don one. As a fashion statement, it's all about redefining the object to create something new.

Easy Does It
Check out how amazing Kate looks with her stole slung over
one shoulder with skinny jeans and a blazer. These are all things you have in your closet right now. Note the pin on her jacket lapel. Nice touch!

Daytime Dress
For daytime, wear your stole over an Asian-fusion or graphic architectural print dress or skirt. Play with the way it hangs. A traditional stole will clip at front, try a side angle for a modern look.

THE FUR COLLAR
The most delish of the fur accessories, this little piece packs a big style punch. There are so many options for the fur COLLAR. Here are a couple of ideas that will spice up your look.

Floral
A little floral dress or skirt with a fur collar is an adorable twist. Be sure to pair with your fitted mil
itary jacket or cardigan. Keep the dress on the short side, add opaque tights and boots.

Fur and Leather
A fur collar over a little leather jacket is so simple and works with anything. When you take off your leather, keep the collar on with your cardigan or Tee.

Little Darling

A fur collar over your basic solid dress adds a precious touch to a classic look. Wear with your
leather driving gloves in a complimentary color. Add a broach or bow-tie. Too cute!

THE FUR VEST
The fur vest is so versatile. You can find 'em in 101 styles, and there are even more ways to wear 'em.

Fur Bolero
Over dresses, tees and jeans, floral prints. Keep the lines of your body in mind. The bolero should elongate the torso.

Faux Hoodie Vest

Not into the real deal? Not a problem. You should be able to find a faux fur accessory at steal too. This Manhattan SCG looks effortlessly chic. Try a faux hoodie vest for those Sunday afternoons. Pair with black leggings and a black scarf. Accent with brown shoes. Don't forget your shades and smile!
